96 Metallic Silver is used to produce a “chrome” metallic look when printed.
96 Metallic Silver produces the best look when directly printed onto a garment or fabric.
Designs made with 96 Metallic Silver may be applied to light or dark fabrics.
This product will spot dry, with a very low after flash tack. Dwell time is dependent on the spot dryer used. In some cases, you may have to lower the heat of the spot cure unit because too much heat may actually make the ink tacky. When you spot dry, you are only partially fusing or gelling the surface of the ink. The ink should be just dry to the touch, with no lift off, but not totally fused. Totally fusing the underprint may cause inter-coat adhesion problems with the inks printed on top. Final fusing or curing will occur in the in the dryer. Failure to fuse ink properly may cause cracking, poor adhesion and poor wash fastness.
Caution: 96 Metallic Silver contains a high loading of uncoated metallic powders that will tarnish (turn gray) when exposed to any type of detergent or water that contains a bleaching or whitening agent. The abrasion resistance of this ink is low. There will be some rub-off of metallic particles even when the ink is properly cured/fused. It is extremely important to preprint and test printed fabrics for wash and wear durability before beginning production.
96 Metallic Silver reflects infrared heat. A forced air dryer is highly recommended for proper curing/fusion of these products. Complete fusion of these products may be very difficult to achieve in an infrared dryer. Even when the 96 Metallic Silver is properly fused, there will be some rub off of metallic particles. Check for proper cure/fusion of product by wash testing finished product according to the wash instructions below.
To obtain best wash results, make sure printed inks are properly cured/fused and hand wash with a phosphate free detergent such as Woolite®, then air or line dry. Do not use bleach, iron or dry clean the printed garment.
Air drying washed product is strongly recommended. Dulling of ink surface may be caused by heat and abrasion in a clothes dryer.
Garments printed with 96 Metallic Silver should be labeled with recommended washing instructions.
It is recommended to use 156 Silver Shimmer when best overall wash and wear durability is desired for metallic looking prints.
